LOS ALTOS, CALIFORNIA
Excellent, very efficient, and even fun.
Yuka Merritt prepared wills, a revocable living trust, certificate of trust, advance health care directives, and durable powers of attorney for us. Yuka made the entire process very efficient and even fun – she ascertained what we wanted and made it easy for us to provide the information she needed to implement our goals.
Yuka answered every detailed and/or general question we had; we were impressed with her knowledge. She pointed out possible pitfalls we were not aware of and suggested how we could achieve our objectives without running into problems – she is proactive.
Yuka also gave clear and detailed instructions on how to transfer assets into the trust, and prepared deeds of transfer for real property and recorded the deeds with the county recorder.
Please don’t get the idea we give high marks to every person who provides services to us, because we don’t, but we have the highest regard and respect for Yuka and the excellent service she provided.

SAN MATEO, CALIFORNIA
Recommended from the bottom of my heart.
Merritt Law handled my spouse’s estate including the probate in San Mateo, California. In addition, my mother-in-law’s estate in Japan, which included the sale of her home in Kanagawa, Japan, had to be taken care of as well. I had nothing but a pleasant experience with Yuka, in what was a very complex disposition of my mother-in-law’s estate. Yuka is very knowledgeable about California and Japanese estate law. Her bilingual skills were very helpful. I recommend Yuka from the bottom of my heart.

Essential and substantive advice from a long-term perspective.
After our aunt’s husband passed away in California, we needed to find an English/Japanese bilingual attorney who could help our aunt with all affairs. Our aunt is elderly with limited English and has no children. We interviewed several attorneys, including the one introduced to us by our aunt’s friend and ones we found on internet. We felt that attorney Yuka Ohashi of Merritt Law had the highest level of knowledge and was able to provide the best advice based on a solid understanding of our situation.
We work with many professionals such as accountants and attorneys who can perform the tasks that we request. However, so few of them are able to analyze and ascertain what needs to be done, explain the pros and cons of each decision, and work toward our goals in the way that Yuka did. Yuka guided us through the entire process and treated the needs of our family as though it were her own.
Yuka is an excellent attorney capable of understanding her client’s situation and offering essential and substantive advice from a long-term perspective.
Services provided by Yuka included:
- Identification, management, and sales of our late uncle’s assets, including their home
- Guidance in the preparation of our aunt’s will/trust
- Management of our aunt’s relocation to Japan during the COVID pandemic
- Measures to minimize US estate tax
- Assistance in all other matters
We are very grateful that we met someone we could trust.
